WOODBAY

Poulsbo, WA

A two-year design + build project, Wood Bay is a custom waterfront home in Poulsbo, Washington, thoughtfully designed in response to its setting in Miller Bay. The project became the catalyst for launching Wendy Phillips Design and provided an opportunity to explore the balance between architecture, landscape, and the natural character of the waterfront property.

The project encompassed architectural floor plans, interior and exterior finish details, kitchen and bath design, custom millwork, material selections, and a cohesive interior and exterior color palette. Every element was thoughtfully considered to create a timeless, transitional shingle-style home that feels connected to its site while providing comfortable spaces for everyday living and entertaining.

The 4-bedroom, 4-bath home features an open kitchen, dining, and living area; a functional mudroom; an outdoor shower; a covered porch; and expansive deck spaces that take advantage of the waterfront setting. A bonus room and bunk room provide additional space for guests and extended family.

The Wood Bay lot was purchased in 2014, and the process of designing and building the home became the inspiration and catalyst for establishing WPD. The home’s design began as part of Wendy’s residential design coursework, where she developed the architectural plans and overall design vision. Her husband, Shane, provided technical guidance and support throughout the process, drawing on his 30 years of engineering experience. Wendy ultimately served as the General Contractor during construction.

Completed in December 2016, Wood Bay was more than a personal residence—it was the project that brought together Wendy’s interior architectural training, design expertise, and hands-on construction experience and helped define the foundation of WPD.

Wood Bay reflects the foundation of WPD’s approach today: thoughtful design, attention to architectural detail, purposeful material selections, and a comprehensive understanding of how a home comes together from concept through construction.
