Triple Crown

This addition and remodel were designed to make the home more functional, up-to-date, and better reflect the way the homeowners live today. The addition created space for an entirely new kitchen, while the former kitchen was reimagined as a comfortable lounge, reading nook, and dining room.

A big part of the design was finding the right balance between old and new. Rather than replacing everything, we looked for opportunities to work with materials that already gave the home character. Existing cherry cabinetry was repurposed in the pantry, while a completely new layout and new cherry cabinetry transformed the kitchen. Fusion quartzite adds movement and depth, while the home’s existing oak floors and natural river rock fireplace help connect the new spaces to the original home. Updated finishes, lighting, and a fresh approach to the material palette brought everything together in a way that feels both timeless and current.

The smaller spaces gave us opportunities to have a little fun. A custom vanity, integrated sink and countertop, and navy-and-gold geometric wallpaper by Phillip Jeffries turned the powder room into one of the most memorable rooms in the house.

A few years later, we returned to design the primary bathroom, incorporating black walnut and a dramatic copper soaking tub. Completed during COVID, the project came with its share of sourcing challenges—the copper tub that became the centerpiece of the room was actually our third choice after the first two became unavailable. It’s hard to imagine the room with anything else.
